    Romance and Honeymoons

You will travel to Budapest, capital of Hungary where you will spend 3 nights. Originally made up of two cities; Buda and Pest – the two became one in 1873. Budapest is architecturally stunning and has often been referred to as ‘The Paris of the East’ comprising as it does of post-modern design, Roman ruins and Gothic and Baroque style buildings. Many structures date from 1896 when Budapest had the 1000th anniversary of the arrival of the Maygars to Hungary (an ethnic group native to Hungary) thus many of the famous buildings were commissioned in celebration of this. The city is wonderfully easy to navigate being dissected by the Danube with Buda on the west side and Pest on the East. Pest has long been considered the more lively of the city’s halves but you will find much to offer on both sides. It is a friendly, engaging city which lends itself to exploring the history during the day and experiencing the more eclectic side in the evening with the nightlife on offer. Enjoy a historically fascinating and beautiful city; surely one of Eastern Europe’s best – this is the ideal destination making it the perfect long weekend.

  • Take a trip on a riverboat on the Danube and experience both sides of the city from the water
  • The buildings are breath-taking; be sure to take in the Hungarian Parliament building, Heroes Square and St Stephen’s basilica
  • Buy a ticket to the Hungarian state opera which is considered to be one of the very best in the world
  • Go shopping to the Great Market Hall; this is Budapest’s most famous and an ideal spot to try out some goulash – one of Hungary’s most famous dishes
  • Ensure you go for a drink in Budapest’s famous ‘ruin bars’; repurposed dilapidated buildings now filled with scruffy furniture and all showcasing their own incredibly atmospheric style
  • Have a ride up the Buda Castle Hill Funicular- the second oldest in the world of it’s kind and giving fantastic panoramic vistas of the Danube
