This incredible itinerary takes you to the ‘Roof of the word’; Tibet. Boasting the earth’s highest eco-system plus one of its last remaining wildernesses, this is a very special trip marrying an exploration of Buddhist culture with the natural wonders of the Everest Base camp. Your trip will take in time in the ‘land of the gods’ – capital city Lhasa before journeying through the northern side of Tibet via Shigatse, Tibet’s holy lakes and stunning monasteries which boast vast treasure troves of astronomy, medicine, calligraphy and history. Enjoy a 2 hour walk to the Everest base camp along a large glacial outwash plain and a beautifully photogenic complex of ruins called Rong Chung, where you will also glimpse herds of deer and yak on the hillsides on the way. One of the most fascinating places to visit in this part of the world, you’ll come away with some fantastic memories.

  • Soak up the atmosphere in Lhasa; this holy city offers unparalleled beautiful scenery, cultural heritage and its mysticism will leave you captivated
  • Enjoy a moment of quiet contemplation in Norbulingka (Tibetan for ‘Treasure Park’); the biggest man made garden in Tibet and a UNESCO world heritage site
  • Learn about the fascinating history of Tibetan Buddhism
  • Take time to enjoy Tibetan cuisine; this distinctive food highlights the geographical location of the high altitude and harsh climate as well as religious beliefs and local traditions
  • Experience first-hand the religious fervour of Tibet by walking along Barkhor street in Lhasa; each day hundreds of Buddhist Pilgrims journey in from every corner of Tibet and across China to make the trek along this street
  • Focus on the spiritual atmosphere at Yamdrok Lake (one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet) ; surrounded by mountains, this is a beautiful spot. Lakes are considered sacred by Tibetans (the principle being that they are dwelling places of protected deities) and they believe they are invested with special powers
  • Explore some of the most revered architecture in the region highlighting craftsmanship from Tibet, China and Nepal
  • Walk each way from Rongbuk Monastery to the Everest Base Camp. Above Rongbuk the valley expands into a large glacial outwash plain
  • Stop and enjoy the scenery at the Rong Chung complex of ruins along the way to Everest Base Camp – this is extraordinarily photogenic
  • Soak up the beauty of the picturesque Yarlung Tsangpo River as you travel back to Lhasa to end your trip
