Start as you mean to go on
Hungry? Begin with a delicious breakfast in Hotel B, a boutique hotel crammed with local art. It’s situated in Barranco, the bohemian district of Lima which is just the place for a morning exploration. Have a quick stop at the Puente Los Suspiros bridge for an amazing view of the ocean. It’s said that if you make a wish and can cross the bridge while holding your breath, your wish will be granted. Take that as you will.
Culture and food
Continue walking until you arrive to the MATE, a museum founded by Mario Testino with the aim of bringing Peruvian artists and culture to worldwide attention. Then have lunch at Isolina, a Peruvian restaurant whose meals pay tribute to the forgotten recipes you’d find in old notebooks. Our tip: don’t leave without trying the ceviche with deep-fried octopus.
Cycling off the calories
Grab your bike for an afternoon ride along the seafront from Barranco to San Isidro – with green parks and cliffs overlooking the ocean, it’s truly breathtaking. It’s also where you’ll see the best sunsets in the city. Finally, after a quick rest, prepare yourself for a near-unmatched culinary experience in Latin America’s number-one restaurant: Maido. If you want to try NIkkei cuisine – the fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cooking – there’s nowhere better.
Breakfast in the heart of chic Lima
Start your day having by breakfast in Mangos, a restaurant situated in Larcomar, a luxury shopping centre. Popular with both tourists and locals, its clifftop location means it has the most amazing views over the ocean. After breakfast do a bit of Peruvian shopping and stop at KUNA where you’ll find extraordinary clothing manufactured with the best alpaca, vicuna, llama and guanaco fibres.
Flying visit
If you really want to enjoy an amazing view of the coast, try paragliding. Not as extreme as it sounds, this is a must when you’re in Lima. All that flying uses up calories, so for lunch you have to visit Osso, officially the 12th-best restaurant in Latin America. A butcher’s shop and restaurant, it prides itself on producing sustainable meat that’s been readered with love and respect. A big favourite here is a dessert made with bacon. Strange? Maybe. Delicious? Definitely.
Night pleasures
After lunch visit the Lima Marina Club and have some drinks as you take in the view of the sunset. Finally – and we’re sorry to see you leave so soon – you can’t go without stopping at Osaka, another Nikkei restaurant, this time with a beautiful, atmospheric terrace. An ideal spot to sample the fantastic cocktails and of course, the food. We say, go for the nigris. Incredible!
