Romance and Honeymoons

Romance and Honeymoons

From neon lights to mountain-top nights, this tour of Japan combines past and present in a journey through culture, food and stunning scenery. In a country where ancient heritage meets the ultramodern, you will experience all aspects of Japan. Your trip will take you from the lively hub of fashion, art, food, and anime pop that is Tokyo, to shrines that pre-date the 6th century in Hiroshima and the peak of Mt Fuji in Kawaguchiko. Along the way you will sample the finest Japanese cuisine, watch Geisha dancers, visit opulent temples and sip sake. Even each hotel will show you a different aspect of the fascinating Japanese culture.

  • Roam around Sensō-ji Temple, the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo, and wander down Nakamise, a shopping street that for centuries has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs
  • Take some time out at Hamarikyu Garden, an Edo-period Japanese garden in Tokyo, and stop for a cup of steaming matcha and Japanese sweets in a tea house on a small island in the park’s lake.
  • Stay at a Japanese ryokan, complete with tatami-matted rooms, delicious multi-course meals, and a steaming onsen (hot spring).
  • Visit Takayama old town, famous for its high-quality sake, and stop at a brewery to sample some sake and purchase a few bottles to take home.
  • Head to the Shirakawago region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses, some of which are more than 250 years old.
  • Explore Kanazawa with a local guide, from Kenroku-en Garden, ranked one of the top three gardens in Japan, to the Kanazawa Castle and the former samurai district, Nagamachi.
  • Take a walk through the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshiuma to discover its many memorials, monuments, and statues before entering the museum to learn and remember what happened here.
  • Take a short ferry ride from Hiroshima to Miyajima, a small sacred island where you will a torii gate which appears to be floating in the sea during high tide, one of Japan’s ‘3 Most Beautiful Views’.
  • Visit Kyoto and its many sights: the world-famous Fushimi Inari Shrine, a shrine made of thousands of bright red torii gates; Sanjusangendo, the longest wooden structure in Japan; Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a celebrated UNESCO World Heritage Site; Kinkakuji Temple, the gold temple; and Kitano-Tenmangu, a shrine built to appease the spirit of an angry ghost.
