Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and is compact and hilly with one of its most famous sights - Edinburgh Castle - looming over it. The beautiful mediaeval old town contrasts with the new town which is Georgian in style with neo-classical buildings and pretty gardens. You will be based for 3 nights in the Rocco Forte Balmoral hotel; ideally located you will be able to access all that the city has to offer. Edinburgh isn't just about history - it has Michelin starred restaurants, vibrant nightlife and a buzzing arts scene - the famous Edinburgh fringe festival in the summer is testament to that. Although the famous festival takes place in the warmer months this isn’t just a summer city- Christmas and Hogmanay are particularly atmospheric times of the year in this city. Much of Edinburgh really lends itself to walking - make sure you take in the castle before heading down again to Parliament Square and the Great Hall at Parliament house; home of the high courts in Scotland, but don't forget to look up there are some stunning paintings there too. Surely one of Europe’s most beautiful cities; Edinburgh is a wonderful choice for a 3 night trip being compact enough to allow you to pack in the sights you will want to see.
